Lord, fave thy people, and bless thine inheritance, which thou haft purchased with the precious blood of thy Chrift: guide them with thy right hand, cover them under thy wings, and grant that they may fight the good fight, finish their course, and keep the faith, continuing ftedfaft, unblameable, and unreproveable to the end, through our Lord Jefus Chrift thy beloved Son; with whom to Thee and the Holy Ghoft, be glory, honour, and adoration, world without end. Then shall the Priest pronounce this Benediction. THE grace of our Lord Jefus Chrift, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghoft, be with you all evermore. Amen.

THE

CELEBRATION

OF THE

HOLY EUCHARIST,

AT THE

BURIAL of the DEA D,

When the Communion is adminiftred at the Burial of the Dead, the Corps shall be brought to the Church in the morning, at the time appointed for the celebration of the Holy Eucharift: and the Priest and Deacon meeting it at the entrance of the Churchyard, fhall begin the Burial fervice as before prefcribed.

When the Deacon has ended the Leffon, the Communion Service fhall begin according to the form before prefcribed in the Holy Liturgy, except that the following Introit, Collect, Epiftle, and Gospel fhall be ufed.

The Introit for this occafion is taken out of the 23d and other Pfalms.

HE Lord is my fhepherd: therefore can I lack nothing.

He fhall feed me in a green pasture: and lead me forth befide the waters of comfort.

He

He shall convert my foul: and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness for his names fake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the fhadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff comfort me.

I should utterly have fainted: but that I believe verily to fee the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

O tarry thou the Lord's leifure: be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart, and put thou thy truft in the Lord.

Turn again then unto thy reft, O my foul: for the Lord hath rewarded thee.

The righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance: right dear in the fight of the Lord is the death of his faints.

Therefore shall every good man fing of thy praise without ceafing: O my God, I will give thanks

unto thee for ever.

Be glad, O ye righteous, and rejoice in the Lord: and be joyful all ye that are true of heart.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghoft; [Hallelujah :]

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. [Hallelujah. ]

The Collect.

Almighty God, we give thee hearty thanks for this

thy fervant, whom thou haft delivered from the miseries of this wretched world, from the body of fin and all temptation; and, as we truft, haft brought bis foul, which we commit into thy holy hands, into fure confolation and reft. Grant, we beseech thee, that at the last great day his foul, and the fouls of all the Faithful departed out of this life in thy fear and favour,

favour, may with us, and we with them, fully receive thy promises, and be made perfect all together, through the glorious refurrection of thy Son Jefus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epiftle. Ι I Theff. 4. 13.

UT I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them who are asleep, that ye forrow not, even as others who have no hope. For if we believe, that Jefus died, and rofe again: even fo them alfo who fleep in Jefus, will God bring with him. For this we fay unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain unto the coming of the Lord, fhall not prevent them who are afleep. For the Lord himself fhall defcend from heaven with a fhout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Chrift fhall rife firft. Then we who are alive and remain, fhall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and fo fhall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

The Gospel. S. John 6. 47.

Efus faid to the Jews, Verily, verily, I fay unto you, He that believeth on me, hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread, which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he fhall live for ever: and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among

them

themselves, faying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jefus faid unto them, Verily, verily, I fay unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whofo eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life, and I will raife him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath fent me, and I live by the Father; fo, he that eateth me, even he fhall live by me. This is that bread that came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead; he that eateth of this bread, fhall live for ever.

But Note, that if the day on which the Holy Eucharift is to be celebrated at the Burial of the Dead, be a Sunday or any Festival for which a proper Introit, Collect, Epiftle, and Gofpel, are appointed; then the foregoing Introit is to be ufed, and that for the day omitted, and the foregoing Epistle and Gofpel are to be omitted, and the Collect, Epiftle, and Gofpel for the day are to be used; but note, that the foregoing Collect shall be said immediately beforethe Collect for the day. But if the day be Afhwednesday or any of the fix days next before Eafter, then the Introit, Collect, Epiftle, and Gospel for the day fhall be faid before the Penitential Office, as if the Eucharift was not celebrated that day, and the foregoing Introit, Collect, Epiftle, and Gospel fhall be used at the celebration of the Holy Eucharift at the Burial of the Dead.
