Beyond the Glass House: The Journal of an Innocent Man, the First Year

I don't know that there is a more difficult case where a judge does more soul searching in a case where a person staunchly denies culpability and at every turn in the system pleads his innocence. We know that there are cases where people are punished for crimes they didn't do. It would just be utterly repugnant for me to think that I could send a man to prison for a crime that he did not commit. I don't know what's right in this case. I don't have that supreme confidence of just knowing something - - that we look at something and it's black and white. It isn't. Society would have a right to be rather unforgiving of me. And so I'm just doing the best that I can.
