Anna Hubbard married Joseph Clough, June 4th, 1807, who was born in Kingston, N. H., March 4th, 1780, and died in Boston, Mass., September 10th, 1839. I remember her when she was surrounded by a most interesting and intelligent family of children in Boston. I spent many evenings in company with my cousins at their pleasant home. Mr. Clough was an ingenious stairbuilder, and his work, which might be seen in almost any elegant house in the city, was greatly admired. He took a deep interest in my welfare, inviting me to the lectures. of the Mechanics' Benevolent Society, of which he was an active member. He introduced me to the President, Joseph T. Buckingham, editor of the Boston Courier. Aunt Clough was left a widow with a large family, and but little means. Many a woman would have sunk under the cares and anxieties that devolved upon her, but her energy proved equal to the occasion. Her children grew up and attained positions of usefulness. One of her sons (Joseph) died in San Francisco, California, leaving a handsome property, a good portion of which fell to her. She resides with her son-in-law, Mr. John B. Colman, and her daughter Lucy, in Brooklyn, N. Y., surrounded by all the comforts of a delightful Christian home. Though eighty-five, her faculties are not impaired. Her letters, extracts from which appear in this narrative, are remarkable both for composition and penmanship. Great interest is felt in her as the only remaining link that connects us with the past. Their children were: Mary Clough, born in Boston, Mass., December 7th, 1808. Died in Hopkinton, Mass., April 7th, 1814.

Henrietta Clough, born in Boston, Mass., February 17th, 1810.

Anna Hubbard Clough, born in Hopkinton, Mass., August 31st, 1812. Died in Williamsburgh, N. Y., July 3d, 1847.
