f ye endure chaftning, m God dealeth with you as with ons: for what fon is he whom the father chaftneth not? 3. But if ye be without chaftifement, n whereof all are artakers, then are ye baftards, and not fons. 9. Furhermore, we have had fathers of our flefh, which corected us, and we gave them reverence: fhall we not much ather be in fubjection unto the Father of spirits, and ive? 10. For they verily for a few days chaftned us after their own pleafure [Or, as feemed good, or, meet o them]; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11. Now no chaftning for the refent feemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless, fterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness, into them which are exercised thereby, 12. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees.

Heb. 6. 6. [It is impoffible] if they fhall fall away, to re them again unto repentance: seeing they crucifie to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open fhame.

(1) Thefe Words may justly difcourage People from deferring their Repentance to a fick, or a Death bed; [not but that it is highly neceffary for thofe, who have been fo very inconfiderate and foolish, to do all that is poffible to be done under fuch Circumftances]. For whether they fhall repent at all, or whether their Repentance will be fuch as God will accept, must be acknowledged to be great Uncertainties. But here is nothing to difcourage any from fetting about a true Repentance imme diately; for how great foever their Sins have been, they are affured, that if they confefs, bewail, and forfake them, and bring forth Fruit worthy of Repentance, fuch Fruits as will be an evident Proof and Demonftration that their Minds are changed and renewed, and that their Repentance is true and fincere, God, for the fake of Jefus Chrift, will accept of them. The Apostle does not fay, that Efau never fo repented as to obtain For givenefs at the Hands of God, though it is plain from the Hiftory, that his Repentance was not fuch at this Time: What the Apoftle fays, is, that he could not by his Tears prevail with his Father Ifaac to Repent,
