the desires and petitions of thy servants, in such manner as may be most expedient for them; granting us, in this world, the knowledge of thy truth; and, in the world to come, life everlasting. Amen.

MAY the favour of our lord Jesus Christ be with us all evermore. Amen. 1 Cor. xvi. 23. Phil. iv. 23.

THE ADMINISTRATION OF

THE LORD'S SUPPER,

OR, HOLY COMMUNION.

¶The minister shall say to those who come to receive the holy communion :

YE, who do truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbours; who intend to lead a religious and virtuous life, following the commandments of GOD, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways, partake of this holy ordinance, instituted in commemoration of the ministry and death of our lord and master, Jesus Christ; and make your humble confession to almighty GOD.

Then shall this general confession be made by the minister and people.

ALMIGHTY GOD! father of our lord Jesus Christ, and of all mankind! judge of all men we acknowledge and lament the many sins and wickednesses, which we, from

from time to time, have committed, by thought, word, and deed, against thy divine majesty, provoking, most justly, thy displeasure against us. We do earnestly repent of, and are heartily sorry for, these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, most merciful father! forgive us all that is past; and influence us, by the dispensations of thy providence, henceforward to serve and please thee, in holiness of life; to the honour and glory of thy name. Amen.

Minister.

ALMIGHTY GOD! our heavenly father! who, of thy great mercy, hast promised forgiveness of sins to all those, who heartily repent and turn unto thee; have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all our sins; confirin and strengthen us in all goodness; and bring us to everlasting life, through the gospel of Jesus Christ our lord. Amen.

The minister shall then say, HEAR the words which Jesus Christ saith to all, who truly turn unto him :

"Come

"Come unto me, all ye who labour with your heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matt. xi. 28.

"Whosoever shall be ashamed of me and my words, of him will the son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in his own, and the glory of the father, and of the holy angels." Luke ix. 26.

Again, "The son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost."

xix. 10.

Luke

HEAR also what the apostle Paul saith: "It is a true doctrine, and worthy of all joyful acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." 1 Tim. i.15.

Minister. Lift up your hearts.

Answer. We will lift them up unto GOD.
Minister. Let us give thanks unto JE-

HOVAH, Our GOD.

Answer. It is meet and right so to do. Minister. It is very meet, right, and our duty, that we should, at all times and in all places, give thanks unto thee, o JEHOVAH! holy father! almighty, everlasting GOD!

¶Here shall follow the proper preface, if there be any especially appointed; or else immediately shall follow,

THEREFORE, we extol and magnify thy glorious name, evermore praising thee, and saying, Holy, holy, holy, JEHOVAH! GOD of the universe! heaven and earth are full of thy glory glory be to thee, O GOD! most high! Amen.

Proper prefaces.

Upon Christmas-day.

BECAUSE thou didst commission thy servant Jesus to preach the terms of salvation to the world; therefore, we extol and magnify thy glorious name, evermore praising thee, and saying, Holy, holy, holy, JEHOVAн! GOD of the universe! heaven and earth are full of thy glory: glory be to thee, O GOD! most high! Amen.

Upon Easter-day.

BUT chiefly we are bounden to praise thee for the resurrection of Jesus Christ our lord from the grave, whereby we are confirmed
