The Germans have long had an important presence in Guatemala as coffee growers, scholars, & in other spheres of national life. At the end of the 19th century & the beginning of the 20th, they published much about the Maya, but little has been made available in Spanish & thus accessible to the people about whom they wrote. As part of the Foundation's ongoing program of repatriation of the works of foreign scholars, it is pleased to offer this small collection of five articles dealing with the anthropology of the Departments of Alta Verapaz & Baja Verapaz, inhabited primarily by Q'eqchi' Maya. The following articles, translated from German, are included: Eduard Seler, Antiguedades de Coban; Karl Sapper, Alimentos y bebidas de los q'eqchi'es; Karl Sapper, Fray Bartolome de las Casas y la Verapaz; Franz Termer, La importancia de los pipiles para la cultura de Guatemala; Karl Sapper, Las constumbres y creencias religiosas de los q'eqchi'es.
