gospel of Jesus Christ, saying with holy Job, "The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord;" and seeing that death is the end of all men, grant us grace to lay it to heart, to despise the world, to abhor that which is evil, to cleave to that which is good, to delight in thy words, to study thy will, to observe thy law, and to take all possible care to promote thy honour and our own salvation, that when we go the way of all the earth, we may be comforted by thy presence, and admitted into thy heavenly kingdom. Amen.

O Lord, we beseech thee mercifully to receive the prayers of thy people which call upon thee; and grant that they may both perceive and know what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c.

REMEMBER not, Lord, our offences, nor the offences of our forefathers; neither take thou vengeance of our sins; spare us, good Lord, spare thy servants, whom thou hast redeemed with thy most precious blood, and be not angry with us for ever,

Spare us, good Lord.

From the guilt and burden of our sins, from the sting and terrors of conscience, from the illusions and assaults of our ghostly enemy, and from the bitter pains of eternal death,

Good Lord, deliver us.

From all impatience and repining at thy chastisements, from dejection of spirit and distrust of thy mercies, from the fear of death, and from such extremity of sickness, anguish, or agony, as may any way withdraw our minds from thee,

Good Lord, deliver us.

By thy manifold and great mercies; by the all-sufficient merits of thy blessed Son Jesus Christ; by his agony and bloody sweat; by his bitter cross and passion; by his glorious resurrection and ascension; by his continual intercession for us at thy right hand; and by the graces and comforts of the Holy Ghost,

Good Lord, deliver us.

In all the changes and chances of this mortal

life; in the day of prosperity, and in the day of adversity; in the hour of death, and in the day of judgment,

Good Lord, deliver us.

We wretched sinners do beseech thee to hear us, O Lord God; and that it may please thee to look upon us with the eye of thy mercy; to give us comfort and sure confidence in thee; and in all our dangers and necessities to stretch forth the right hand of thy Majesty to help and defend us, and to keep us in perpetual peace and safety;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to remember us with thy favour; and to give us grace, so to follow the good examples of thy servants, departed this life in thy faith and fear, that with them we may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to sanctify to us all thy fatherly corrections; and to grant that whensoever thou shalt be pleased to cast us on the bed of sickness, the sense of our weakness may add strength to our faith, and seriousness to our repentance; and we may so take thy visitations, that after this life ended, we may dwell with thee in life everlasting,

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to give us an entire resignation to thy blessed will; to wean our

affections from things below, and to fill us with ardent desires after heaven; and finally to make us partakers of all thy blessings and promises in Christ Jesus;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to fill our souls with such a comfortable sense of reconciliation with thee, our God, that when thou shalt call us to walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we may fear no evil, but may lay us down in peace; and when we awake up, we may be satisfied with thy presence in thy glory;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

That it may please thee to give thy holy angels charge over us to assist us in our last conflict, and to conduct our souls into the blessed society of thy saints in Paradise; there to rest in joy and peace, till thou shalt vouchsafe to our bodies a part in the blessed resurrection to life and glory;

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Then shall all repeat

Our Father, which art in heaven, &c.

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead: he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven: give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
