I have entitled my book Lights and Shadows of Seventy Years, because it deals With the changes of these years more than my personal work. The record of What I have done Will be of some interest to those Who know me; to others there may be a general interest in a reo ord of changes Which, through the lapse of three-quarters of a century, have taken place in church and society, and our mode of life.

It Will be observed by dates, here and there, that What is recorded in these pages has taken form through a period of seven years. Mem ory has been my guide and I have given only sketches of life's journey and experiences.
