Arr. by L. MASON.

Triumphant Zi

on, lift thy head From dust, and dark - ness and the dead; Tho' humbled

long,awake at length, And gird thee with thy Saviour's strength,And gird thee with thy Saviour's strength.

1055 Home Missions.
Look from thy sphere of endless day,
O God of mercy and of might!
In pity look on those who stray,
Benighted in this land of light.

2 In peopled vale, in lonely glen,
In crowded mart, by stream or sea,
How many of the sons of men

Hear not the message sent from thee!
3 Send forth thy heralds, Lord, to call
The thoughtless young, the hardened old,
A scattered, homeless flock, till all

Be gathered to thy peaceful fold.

Send them thy mighty word to speak, Till faith shall dawn, and doubt depart, To awe the bold, to stay the weak,

And bind and heal the broken heart.

5 Then all these wastes, a dreary scene,
That makes us sadden as we gaze,
Shall grow with living waters green,
And lift to heaven the voice of praise.

William C. Bryant.

LET Zion and her sons rejoice

Behold the promised hour!

Her God hath heard her mourning voice,
And comes to exalt his power.

2 Her dust and ruins that remain
Are precious in our eyes;
Those ruins shall be built again,
And all that dust shall rise.

3 The Lord will raise Jerusalem,
And stand in glory there;
Nations shall bow before his name,
And kings attend with fear.

4 He sits a sovereign on his throne,
With pity in his eyes,

He hears the dying prisoners' groan,
And sees their sighs arise.

5 He frees the souls condemned to death;
Nor, when his saints complain,
Shall it be said that praying breath
Was ever spent in vain.

1057 "Can a mother forget?" A MOTHER may forgetful be, For human love is frail;

But thy Creator's love to thee, O Zion, cannot fail.

Isaac Watts.

2 No: thy dear name engraven stands, In characters of love,

On thine almighty Father's hands,
And never shall remove.

SHINE, mighty God! on Zion shine
With beams of heavenly grace;
Reveal thy power through all our coasts,
And show thy smiling face.

2 When shall thy name, from shore to shore, Sound all the earth abroad,

And distant nations know and love
Their Saviour and their God?

3 Sing to the Lord, ye distant lands!
Sing loud with solemn voice;
Let every tongue exalt his praise,
And every heart rejoice.

4 Earth shall obey her Maker's will,
And yield a full increase;
Our God will crown his chosen land
With fruitfulness and peace.

5 God, the Redeemer, scatters round
His choicest favors here,

While the creation's utmost bound
Shall see, adore, and fear.

Isaac Watts.

RISE, crowned with light, imperial Salem, Walk in the light, and in thy temple bend;

See thy bright altars thronged with prostrate kings,

While every land its joyful tribute brings. 4 The seas shall waste, the skies to smoke decay,

Rocks fall to dust, and mountains melt away; But fixed his word, his saving power remains; Thy realms shall last, thy own Messiah reigns!

Alexander Pope.

Lord of all worlds, incline thy bounteous ear, Thy children's voice, in tender mercy, hear; Bear thy blest promise, fixed as hills, in mind, D. S.-And shed renewing grace on lost mankind!

Till o'er our ransomed nature
The Lamb for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reign!

The day of Jubilee.

Reginald Heber.

1062
HOW BEAUTEOUS on the mountains,
The feet of him that brings,
Like streams from living fountains,
Good tidings of good things;
That publisheth salvation,
And jubilee release,
To every tribe and nation,

God's reign of joy and peace!

2 Lift up thy voice, O watchman! And shout, from Zion's towers, Thy hallelujah chorus,

"The victory is ours!" The Lord shall build up Zion In glory and renown,

And Jesus, Judah's lion,

Shall wear his rightful crown.

3 Break forth in hymns of gladness; O waste Jerusalem!

Let songs, instead of sadness,

Thy jubilee proclaim;
The Lord, in strength victorious,
Upon thy foes hath trod;

Behold, O earth! the glorious

Salvation of our God!

Benjamin Gough

Our country's voice is pleading, Ye men of God, a

rise!

His prov-i-dence is leading,' The land before you lies; Day-gleams are o'er it bright'ning,

And promise clothes the soil; Widefields, for har-vest whitening, Invite the reaper's toil.

When all shall dwell together,
One shepherd and one fold?
Shall every idol perish,

To moles and bats be thrown,
And every prayer be offered
To God in Christ alone?

2 Shall Jew and Gentile, meeting From many a distant shore, Around one altar kneeling,

One common Lord adore? Shall all that now divides us Remove and pass away, Like shadows of the morning Before the blaze of day?

3 Shall all that now unites us More sweet and lasting prove, A closer bond of union,

In a blest land of love?
Shall war be learned no longer,
Shall strife and tumult cease,
All earth his blesséd kingdom,
The Lord and Prince of Peace?

4 O long-expected dawning,
Come with thy cheering ray!
When shall the morning brighten,
The shadows flee away?

O sweet anticipation!

It cheers the watchers on, To pray, and hope, and labor, Till the dark night be gone.
